As a gay man who has gone through my own coming-out process, I have become all the more aware of the life-changing decisions women face when they choose not to have children. While my coming-out was over in a short time, women are often confronted with questions about children until the end of their childbearing years. My interest lies in these women and their life philosophies, which deviate from societal norms. They often hear questions like “When are you going to have children?” or “I’d love to have grandchildren.” Such expectations suggest that individual decisions are often met with little understanding. In the fight for equality, I advocate for fair and respectful treatment of all genders. This portrait series is a statement against norms that restrict women’s freedom of choice and opens a dialogue about independence, self-determination, and equality.
